Frequently Asked Questions

Getting Started

How do I scan my first receipt?

Open Snap Receipt and tap the camera button at the bottom of the home screen. Point your camera at the receipt — paper or on-screen — and the AI will extract the merchant, date, total, tax, tip, payment method, and every line item in a few seconds.

You can also import a screenshot, photo, or PDF from your library by tapping the gallery icon next to the shutter.

Do I need to link my bank account?

No. Snap Receipt works entirely from your receipts. We never ask for bank logins, credentials, or read-only access to your accounts. If you can take a photo of it, we can track it.

Can I edit a receipt after it's scanned?

Yes. Tap any receipt to open it, then tap any field — merchant, total, category, line items — to edit. Your corrections also help future scans get more accurate.

Scanning & Accuracy

The AI got something wrong on my receipt. What do I do?

Tap the receipt and edit any field directly. If you're seeing the same mistake repeatedly with a specific store, please email support@appsvanta.com with a screenshot — we tune the AI based on real-world examples.

Which receipts can I scan?

Paper receipts, email screenshots, PDF receipts, in-app order confirmations, and even photos of digital displays. The AI works best with clear, well-lit images. If a receipt is crumpled or faded, try flattening it and scanning under good light.

How are expenses categorized?

The AI assigns each receipt to a category like Groceries, Dining, Transport, Bills, or Subscriptions. You can change a category at any time, and the app will learn from your choices over time.

Budgets, Subscriptions & Insights

When do AI budget suggestions appear?

Once you've scanned enough receipts, the AI has enough history to suggest a personalized monthly budget per category. You can also create budgets manually from day one — just tap Budgets from the menu.

How does the subscription tracker work?

Snap Receipt looks for recurring charges across your scanned receipts and email confirmations and groups them into a single subscriptions view. You'll see your true monthly total and any free trials about to renew. You can mark items as cancelled or hide them at any time.

What is the monthly AI review?

At the end of each month, the AI generates a personalized summary of your finances — a headline, highlights, weekly breakdown, budget performance, and unusual-spike detection. It's available in the Insights tab.

Account & Data

How do I back up or sync across devices?

Sign in with email, Apple, or Google. Once signed in, your receipts, budgets, and shopping lists sync automatically across all your devices.

How do I export my receipts?

Open Settings → Export and choose CSV or PDF. You can filter by date range, category, or specific receipts. Exports are great for tax season or sharing with a bookkeeper.

How do I delete my account?

Send a request to privacy@appsvanta.com or follow the steps on our Account Deletion page. We delete all personal data within 30 days.

Subscriptions & Billing

What's included in Plus and Pro?

Plus unlocks higher monthly scan limits, AI natural language search, AI shopping lists, in-store mode, and the monthly AI review.

Pro includes everything in Plus with the maximum monthly scan limits, expanded AI usage, and priority support.

The free plan includes core tracking so you can try Snap Receipt with no commitment.

Current limits and pricing for your region are shown on the in-app upgrade screen and on the App Store / Google Play listing.

How do I cancel my subscription?

iPhone / iPad: Open the App Store → tap your profile picture → Subscriptions → Snap Receipt → Cancel.

Android: Open the Play Store → tap your profile picture → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → Snap Receipt → Cancel.

Cancelling stops future charges; you keep access until the end of the billing period.

How do I request a refund?

All purchases are made through Apple or Google, so refunds are handled by them. For Apple, visit reportaproblem.apple.com. For Google, open the Play Store → Subscriptions → Snap Receipt → Refund.

If you have an unusual situation, email billing@appsvanta.com and we'll do our best to help.

I was charged but my features didn't unlock.

Try Settings → Restore Purchases. Make sure you're signed in to the same Apple ID or Google account that made the purchase. If it still doesn't work, email billing@appsvanta.com with your receipt from Apple or Google and we'll fix it.

Troubleshooting

The app crashes or freezes when I scan a receipt.

First, force-quit the app and reopen it. If the issue persists, update to the latest version from the App Store or Play Store. Still seeing the issue? Email support@appsvanta.com with your device model, OS version, and what the receipt looked like.

Notifications aren't coming through.

Check Settings → Notifications inside the app, then verify Snap Receipt is allowed to send notifications in your device's system settings. On iOS this is Settings → Notifications → Snap Receipt; on Android it's Settings → Apps → Snap Receipt → Notifications.

I lost my receipts after reinstalling.

If you signed in before reinstalling, sign back in with the same method (email, Apple, or Google) and your receipts will sync down automatically. If you used the app anonymously, data lived only on your device — please email us so we can help check whether anything can be recovered.
